LUCIE RYU
LUCIE RYU is a young artist and designer born in Seoul who has been working between France and Korea since 2010. Influenced by both cultures, she studied design at Beaux-Arts and learned jewelry craftsmanship at an atelier. Hailing from Seoul—a “futuristic” and hyper-technological city—while also based in Paris, a world-renowned capital that has become her second home, she reflects her dual-cultural background in her artistic vision. Life in these two cities has profoundly influenced her design world.Much of her work is inspired by science fiction, drawing heavily on the power of imagination. She frequently explores the fusion of contrasting qualities—for instance, combining organic and inorganic materials, bringing together living and non-living elements, or examining ideas of mutation—to create harmonious hybrid forms. From a young age, she watched her father, who worked in architecture, sketch blueprints for real-world buildings and shape their designs at the family table. Growing up next to a mountain also exposed her to frequent contact with nature. These formative experiences left a strong mark on her art. Through precious materials used for jewelry, she projects her overall life experiences, artistic sensibilities, childhood memories, and fascination with hybrids and the living world into her creations.
