As he himself playfully puts it — with an air of reproach — “it’s the path that chose me”! He’s been creating jewellery and accessories since 1986 and the Paris fashion houses have never tired of the unique and elegant way he contributes to their collections and shows.
Drawing his inspiration from a variety of sources — nature, the past, architecture — it’s the very history of the world’s civilisations which form the starting point for his creations. His skill for combining intricate metalwork and precious stones which set each other off to perfection, has become his personal hallmark. Naturally, Philippe Ferrandis places huge importance on the choice of materials which must embody the three essential qualities of nobility, purity and refinement. No matter the material - gems, semi-precious stones, pearls, wood, shell, crystal, bronze, or even man-made paste - all are set exquisitely. At times they produce a modern twist on a classical theme; at others a striking, clever quirkiness; this designer knows instinctively when to deploy which arrow in his remarkable armoury of talents to allow the intrinsic beauty of the material itself to shine.
His Paris atelier bears the prestigious “EPV” (Entreprise de Patrimoine Vivant) warrant in recognition of his excellence in craftsmanship. His atelier rubs shoulders with the most distinguished artisans and manufacturers in France. These collections are designed and produced entirely on site, there are two collections a year, as well as one-off pieces which cause a stir as much for their size as for their originality! “The only thing we can bring to materials of such beauty is our impeccable workmanship.”
