ANNE REED
My current work as a designer takes a radical and sculptural context underpinned in the exploration of externalising human emotions.
I seek to explore the constructs of emotions from an ‘inside-out’ approach, looking at how to portray what we feel – how we express our emotions from within and how these are represented externally.
So often the emotions we express bear no relation to our inner feelings. Despite the complexity, when asked ‘how are you?’, the ubiquitous response is, ‘I’m fine’. Very rarely do we actually say how we really feel. What is generally observable is the person’s demeanour or their reactions which are likely to portray a very different script.
It is our bravery to connect with our feelings which allows us to evolve. As human ‘beings’ we are complex layers of the past and present. Our bodies absorb and distil vibrational energy which spills into our auras. The ebb and flow of the natural five ‘elements’ of the earth, fire, water, air and space connect us with nature – these elements influence our physical, mental and emotional well-being. It is strongly believed that the energy flow within the body actually conditions our overall existence. Many of the illnesses society witnesses today are a result of ‘dis-ease’.
To connect with our feelings crosses the complexities and realms of the physical and psychological essence within ourselves. Our lives are a series of intricate connections which weave and accumulate in what I seek to translate as energy, movement, shapes and textures.
For me it is about the exploration of one’s feelings and their translation into conceptual art form which can be worn, held or simply viewed.
My work is predominately created organically with the flow of wax representing freedom and sensuality. I want my work to touch the soul of the eyes of the observer.
